The Grid

• What do the terms ‘SDG’ and ‘DDG’ refer to?

  SDG stands for Single/Double Grid, and DDG stands for Double/Double Grid. They refer to the two possible track configurations used on the top of the Grid. The Robots’ wheels use these tracks to move around the Grid.
  

  SDG: The single-track design provides a single rail track along one axis, with a double rail track along the other axis. This requires Robots to have at least one cell between them when passing each other.
  

  DDG: The double-track design provides two rail tracks in all directions, meaning Robots can pass each other in all directions.

• What is the center-to-center distance (length-width) between the Bins?

  Single/Double Grid:

  • 705mm (27.8 inches) in wide Grid direction

  • 480mm (18.9 inches) in narrow Grid direction.

  Double/Double Grid:
  

  • 705mm (27.8 inches) in wide grid direction

  • 505mm (19.9 inches) in narrow Grid direction.
    

• Are there any height limitations for the Grid?

  The maximum height of a Grid is dependent on the Bin size selected for the system:

  • 330 mm Bins x 18 levels

  • 425 mm Bins x 14 levels

  • These configurations total 6 m (19.7ft)

  • With enough operating space for the Robots and recommended service, the maximum total height is 8 m (26.2ft) 220 mm Bin x 26 levels

  • This configuration totals 5.8 m (19.1ft)

  • With enough space for Robots and recommended servicing, the maximum total height is 7.8 m (25.7ft).
    

• What is the minimum height required for the Grid?

  This is dependent on the design and the size of Bin being used and ensure Ports can function correctly with the chosen Bin size.
  
  The operating space needed for the Grid track in top is always the same and is included in the minimum Grid height calculation.

  The minimum Grid height for each Bin size is then as follows:

  • 220 mm Bin = 6 levels

  • 330 mm Bin = 4

  • 425 mm Bin = 3 levels
    

• How much space is needed between the warehouse ceiling and the top of the Grid?

  For safe operation of the Robot fleet, the system needs 600 mm (2ft) of clearance above the Grid. There should also be adequate room for service and support staff to safely operate AutoStore service vehicles on top of the Grid.

  • We recommend a minimum height of 2 m (6.5ft) of clear space above the Grid.

  • In some exceptions, a lower height may be accepted by the local authorities.

  • However, this needs to be agreed upon and approved by the relevant local authorities, together with your AutoStore distributor.

• What is the total clearance between the Bin length and width dimension versus the opening created by the Grid (length and width)?

  3 mm (0.1 inch) on all sides (Bin tolerance +/-2 mm)

• Will SDG still be available?

  Yes, although DDG will be the new standard going forward.‍
  

• Is it possible to have AutoStore Grids installed on different floor levels in the building?

  Yes. The Bin Lift Grid-to-Grid (G2G) configuration allows Bins to navigate up and down between Grids on different floors.
  

  Bin Lift is currently available in:

  • The EU, United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, China, Israel, Panama, Serbia, and Uruguay.

  • We are working on adding global availability with applicable product approvals for other regions.

  • Please note that it may take longer in some countries to get approval.

• Can I install a self-supporting AutoStore Grid?

  Yes, it is possible to install a self-supporting AutoStore Grid using Grid Bracers.
  

  • The Grid Bracer provides operational support to the AutoStore Grid, eliminating the need for additional structural construction around the pillars or walls.

  • This allows you to utilize your available storage space to its full potential and can significantly shorten installation lead time and lower the cost of the AutoStore system.

  • The Grid Bracer is compatible with the Double/Double Grid.
