Sustainability at AutoStore™
Advantages for businesses
Improving order fulfillment together.
How do companies ensure they have enough room to meet growing customer expectations, while also minimizing the negative impact of their operations? AutoStore is committed to building innovative solutions that help companies operate effectively and more sustainably:
-
High energy efficiency Super dense storage allows for much smaller locations with significantly lower energy consumption.
-
Shorten the last mile Huge, out of town sites and greenfield developments can be replaced with smaller locations nearer to population centers, reducing last mile energy requirements.
-
Innovative solutions We're committed to building innovative solutions that help companies consume less, serving to their communities more sustainably.
Technology made for humans
AutoStore brings products to warehouse workers, not the other way around. Picking and replenishing the Grid from ergonomic workstations, aka Ports, makes work life comfortable, productive, and safe.
- Employees at TTI in Texas were long-accustomed to walking a 74,322-sqm (800,000-sf) warehouse and using horizontal carousel technology for fulfillment. Now, all the picking and restocking take place within easy-to-use workstations.
- At the PUMA e-commerce distribution center in Indiana, the traditional warehouse environment perceived as "dark, dirty, and strenuous" has been transformed into a tech-forward place where people enjoy work.
- While picking productivity and warehouse productivity doubled, employee satisfaction soared for German e-grocer Knuspr after adopting AutoStore.
The densest warehouse storage system
AutoStore provides companies with up to four times the storage capacity in the same footprint. Its density allows for much smaller locations with significantly lower energy consumption. Modular components fit easily around your existing real estate, eliminating the need for costly new construction and lowering environmental impacts.
-
The high cost of real estate in Switzerland made AutoStore's cubic storage solution a practical and sustainable solution for BRACK.CH, an e-commerce 3PL provider operating a 55,000-sqm (600,000-sf) distribution center. Company founder Roland Brack explains how the system allows for continuous expansion within a limited footprint.
Powered by renewables
A typical AutoStore system comprising of 3 ConveyorPorts™, 7 CarouselPorts™, 1 Controller, and 40 Robots with 30 charging stations, operating for an average of 8 hours/day for 250 days/year would only consume approximately 8,900 KWh in total.
This low total output can be generated with rooftop photovoltaic systems using solar panels, like AutoStore customer, Berggård Amundsen:
-
When implementing AutoStore, more than 1,000 solar panels were installed on the roof of Berggård Amundsen's new warehouse, in Langhus, Viken, Norway.
-
This ensure the warehouse's energy consumption is fully self-sufficient April - September, when there is enough sunlight to sustain solar power production.
